Every day we see the condition of a nation that has turned away from God. I don’t need to list everything going on in our nation – you already know the list.
I would like to offer four exhortations:
1. Don’t let all the negative news consume your time and thinking. Yes, we absolutely need to be informed about what is going on in the world, but that can be done by watching a thirty-minute news cycle once a day or reading an informative book on a topic. Hours of negative news input is not good for your mind, heart and soul. And remember God’s Word teaches us that in the end we win.
2. Jesus told us that we are the light in the world. (Matthew 5:14-16) Let your light shine brightly in your home, church, neighborhood and in the workplace. Be a positive influence.
3. Be prepared to join the conversation. We are to live like the sons of Issachar, “men who understood the time, with knowledge of what Israel should do” (1 Chronicles 12:32). This is one of the reasons I wrote PREPARE. And we are instructed in 1 Peter 3:15, “always be ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.” How can we do this? By spending time in God’s Word. Let God’s Word inform and transform our mind every day. Study God’s Word, meditate on God’s Word, and memorize God’s Word.
4. Finally, pray for our nation. God instructed the nation of Israel at a time when they were spiraling downward, “If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14). It was a good principle then and a good one today.
Walk with Christ daily, keep the faith, stay informed, join the conversation, and pray.
